IDAHOBIT Rainbow Round of GEL Netball

We're recognising International Day Against LGBTIQA+ Discrimination (IDAHOBIT) with a Rainbow Round of GEL Netball!

The city of Glen Eira is proud to have a diverse community where everybody belongs.

At GEL, we are committed to ensuring everyone feels welcome, safe, and supported while using our facilities and participating in our sporting leagues.

We have been working with Proud2Play to ensure our sporting competitions and facilities are inclusive and welcoming of everyone in the LGBTIQA+ community. This year we are celebrating IDAHOBIT with a Rainbow Netball Round on Wednesday 15 May.

What's involved in the Rainbow Round of GEL Netball?

GEL Netball is going rainbow to signal our stance against LGBTQIA+ discrimination. Teams participating in our GEL Netball competition will be provided with our custom-designed "Pride" bibs for their games on Monday 13 May and Wednesday 15 May.

We're also hosting a special IDAHOBIT information activation with Proud2Play and the Queer Sporting Alliance at 7.10pm on Wednesday 15 May.

The information activation is FREE for everyone to attend and will feature interviews with Proud2Play and the Queer Sporting Alliance, mini competitions, raffles, prizes, snacks and opportunities to learn more about our inclusive social sporting leagues. Attendees will also receive a 7-day free trial to GEL's facilities.

* Please note, to win the raffle, you must be present at the event.

What is IDAHOBIT?

Friday 17 May is International Day Against LGBTIQA+ Discrimination (IDAHOBIT).

IDAHOBIT marks the day that homosexuality was removed from the WHO Classification of Diseases in 1990 and represents an important milestone in the recognition of LGBTQIA+ rights globally. However, LGBTQIA+ people in Australia still today experience disproportionate rates of bullying, harassment, and discrimination, highlighting the ongoing need for advocacy and education to promote acceptance and equality for all. For more information and resources on maximizing LGBTQIA+ inclusion, visit www.idahobit.org.au.

This is an inclusive event and aims to promote understanding and respect for all members of our diverse community. Council has a zero-tolerance policy to any form of discrimination.
