What is the six star Green star certification?

Green Star is Australia’s trusted sustainability rating tool for the built environment, setting the standard for better, healthier and more responsible buildings and places.

Green Star Buildings includes a set of targets to help deliver Climate Positive buildings that are fossil fuel free, powered by renewables, highly efficient, built with lower carbon materials and offset with nature.

Carnegie Memorial Swimming Pool achieved a Green Star Designed rating which represents a precertification that the building’s design is on track to achieve a Green Star rating when assessed after construction. We will be applying for the Six Star Green Star rating once the construction is completed.

What sustainability features does the centre have?

The centre will be one of the few in Australia to be all-electric and powered by renewable energy. The roofs will be covered with solar cells, offsetting power usage from the electricity grid. To help restore and protect biodiversity and ecosystems, rainwater tanks will collect on-site water which will be reused to water the native vegetation.

The facility’s energy system will constantly monitor and record energy usage and water consumption figures, and adjust environmental conditions for user comfort and energy efficiency.

The construction process uses sustainable building materials and recycled products where possible.
